Notices

We have sent home letters at the beginning of the year with details of how to join our Dojo website. On this website you can track your child's behaviour and rewards, as we give dojos each week. The children with the highest amount of dojos will get a small prize. You can also access my updates of the week, where I will post what we have been doing during the week and also who has won the star and learner of the week.

This amazing website also allows you to contact me directly and message me about any questions you may have about your child or school. I will endeavour to respond within 24 hours, failing a quick enough response, you are welcome to ring the office and make an appointment to see me.

PE

Every Monday and Thursday Emerald class have PE. Please ensure they have a full PE kit (navy shorts, white t-shirt, and black pumps that are labelled with their name.

Assembly

Please try and attend Friday assembly to celebrate yours and other children's achievements in school. We look forward to seeing you there! The name of the child in Emerald class to receive the prestigious award of class star of the week or worker of the week will be posted on Dojo, so look out for it!

Books at home

Reading is important for every child and we like to encourage readers both in and out of school. Children will be given reading books that are changed regularly, not only so they can impress us with their reading skills in school, but so they can get valuable practice at home too. We hope that you will be able to ensure that your child reads at least three times a week, but any extra time you can spend sharing a book with them will be beneficial, and can be a great experience for parent and child. There are lots of great activities within the books for you to do with your child that can help enhance their understanding of the book.

Every half term we will complete running records with your child to determine whether they are ready to move up to the next band of reading book.

Book bags

Book bags are not merely a way of getting books home; you will often find letters from school, examples of impressive work or certificates and awards in there too. That is why it is important to make sure that book bags are brought into school every day.

Picking up your child

Children will exit the school through the hall door onto the KS1 playground. Please ensure that you come to the hall door and tell the member of staff who you are picking up so that there is smooth hand over.

If you have any questions or queries please don't hesitate to see the office and arrange an appointment.

Homework

Spellings
We will be sending a small spelling book home, weekly, with daily spellings of high frequency words that the children need to learn, to read and spell for a weekly spelling test. This will be sent home on the Friday, for practise over the weekend and be expected back into school, at the latest on Tuesday. Please understand that your involvement with your child, practising these words will greatly help them with their confidence in these tests and the more they know the more it will have an impact on the writing.

Later on in the year there may be additional tasks/activities set around our topics for homework but these will be optional.

Encouragement and rewards

Rewards: Children are given raffle tickets and climb the reading rocket every time they read at home with an adult, please ensure that you sign and put a comment in your child's reading record so that we can see evidence that they have read.

In Emerald, trying our best, observing class rules and mutual respect are recognised behaviours, and are all things we like to see from our classmates and teachers alike. Emerald class, have together, come up with rules that we all agreed are important to stick to so that we have a peaceful class environment, where all children feel secure, happy and safe. With our new behaviour policy up and running we encourage these good behaviours and children are awarded with Dojo points. These points are tracked and children earn points to gain certificates e.g. bronze=20, silver=30 and Gold=50. Children that get the most points during each week will be rewarded with a prize too! So any support you can give the children to earn these points at home will be beneficial to them. Please feel free to check up on your children through your dojo login, (this will be sent out at the beginning of the year). You can also communicate with us through Dojo and we will do our best to respond within 24 hours if it is specific issue.
